Thank goodness they’re letting us train before going out there. Those monsters look scary, real scary. I’m not sure my teammates will help me either. Anyways, we’re each assigned a mentor. Mine is named Lucy. She seems like an expert, but time will tell. “Listen up!” Lucy says to me. I look up. “There’s really nothing better than to hear you’re number 1. Do you want to be number 1?” I nod, slightly. “Then listen carefully, you have to be a fast learner, you only are allowed 3 days of training.” “3 days?!” I say. “Yes, 3 days. So FOCUS! First off, we have to focus on your running. Speed is important, yes, but there are other skills too. We will first see how you run, then we’ll talk. Let’s go to the training center.” She grabs my hand tightly, and brings me there. Not gonna lie, her hands are cold. “Are you ready?” Without letting me reply, she says, “GO!” I run, trying to not only focus on speed, but these so called ‘skills’ she’s talking about. It takes me 3 minutes to go down and back. “You’re quick,” she says, “but this isn’t just about speed. Remember that. Let’s go agai-“ “But how am I supposed to know what skills to focus on if you won’t tell me?” I cut her off. I could tell she was mad, but I had proven my point, so I don’t care. “A hero lies within. If you really want to learn these skills, you’ll dig down deep to find them, to learn them, to understand them! This is real life, you’re not babies anymore to have everyone tell you everything. You could die if I don’t let you understand it on your own. You won’t learn it if you don’t learn it yourself. On your own!” She says, calmly, but still pretty mad. “What if I don’t have enough time to understand it? What if 3 days isn’t enough? I need at least a week to learn something ‘within myself’. It’s not that simple.” I say. “You’re right, it isn’t that simple. And if you can’t understand it here, you’ll understand it at the arena. Really think about it, dig down deep deep deep, into the roots. And remember, running is not the only thing we need to focus on.”. Thats it, I’m going insane. “But LUCY!”
