I was actually playing around with a little pixel aliasing trick I rediscovered by accident when making a picture in Paint.NET for another totally-not-scratch-realted project. Such trick was beautifully exploited by Titan Team in their Overdrive 2 demo for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.
