This is a short overview thingy that kind of explains why Shinon from Fire Emblem, in my opinion, is bi. I don't mean to offend anyone with this. Just a bunch of opinions. WARNING - Lots of spoilers are ahead. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Evidence: I'll be referncing a few things throughout this: - Shinon and Gatrie's support conversation from Path of Radiance - The "Kitten Smitten" base conversation from Radiant Dawn - Chapter 7 of Radiant Dawn, where Shinon leaves the Greil Mercenaries (also Greil's death scene) (very brief reference - I won't link this one) - Titania and Rhys's C-Support - And the base conversation titled "Shinon" from Radiant Dawn as well. Links are in the credits. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Points: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1. In "Kitten Smitten," Gatrie drags Shinon to show him a new girl in camp. However, when Shinon agrees, he says something along the lines of, "A pretty face might keep me sane." Now there's two things to address- Gatrie first mentioned that the subject is female. The second thing was, Shinon used a gender-neutral terminology. Typical readers would assume he's still talking about the girl in question (Lyre, for those who know). Maybe it's a localization change, but if you really look at it, it does seem to clearly say Shinon just wants to see someone with a pretty face in general. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2. Shinon and Gatrie's support (C-A) Shinon and Gatrie's support basically goes like this: Gatrie gets with a girl and needs to ask Shinon for advice. Shinon uses this as the perfect excuse to have Gatrie take him out to a nice restaurant. Does he give any advice? Probably not. Eventually, Gatrie gets cheated out of his money by said girl. Shinon gives him some sympathy, and suprisingly, buys Gatrie dinner. There's two things to mention from this conversation: - Shinon claims he's the "romance master," (or something like that) which is clearly false, but considering his character (the Tellius games never give us explicit evidence), he probably has been with someone before. - He's only in this because he wants to eat dinner with Gatrie. Now I'm not going into "best friends are gay". I'm just pointing something out. This is probably one of the more explicit instances that shows that Shinon has been involved with people in the past (not exactly hinting his orientation, though). Most readers would naturally assume, again, he's talking about women. But again, gender-neutral terminology is used. Shinon doesn't say he used to be involved with men or women, instead referring to romance as a whole. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 3. "Shinon" base conversation (the developers were so original with this) Here's a short overview of the conversation: - Aimee, notoriously known by Tellius fans because she's always trying to flirt with random men, corners Shinon one night and appears to be doing it again. - However, there's something about money involved. Ike shows up and it turns out that Shinon was selling his bows for the Greil Mercs to get more money. Personally, I think this conversation did a great job with subtle characterization. But there's some more things to note: - Similar to Ike and Soren, Shinon clearly didn't want to be involved with Aimee. - As most Fire Emblem fans know, Ike and Soren are hinted to be in a relationship by the end of Radiant Dawn. As far as I know, Aimee hasn't interacted with anyone else besides these three (if anyone knows, please tell). Of course, you could make the assumption that Shinon is attracted to men (on some level) because he doesn't want to flirt with Aimee. Well, to be fair, Shinon doesn't really willingly interact with anyone besides Gatrie (a friend), Rolf (his student), and Janaff (this was really random, but yeah, there was a support about them), and Greil (heavily implied, father figure). Again, all these characters are male. In Titania and Rhys's C-Support as well, it does hint that Shinon and Titania have a pretty strong connection, but it's not as explicit as these examples. I don't even know what I'm trying to say with this, but you can take this section two ways: Shinon only has (known) connections with other male characters, and this could either mean: 1. There's a pretty high chance he's attracted to men (which could make sense, since besides Titania, he rarely interacts with women) 2. He's not attracted to men, because from an overall consensus, straight people interact with their same gender more often. Think whatever you want about this. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - So, overall, what I'm trying to say is that, in my opinion, Shinon is probably bi. And I'll say this again: This is all my opinion. Feel free to disagree. I won't debate about it, it's a pretty loose topic that I haven't seen much opinions on.
