National Day for Truth and Reconciliation -- On september 30th, we wear orange shirts to honour and remember residential school survivors and the children who died or went missing in the residential school system. We recognise the 150,000 Indigenous children who endured residential schooling, and the trauma that continues to be felt today. The day was inspired by Phyllis Webstad, a member of the Stswecem\'c Xgat\'tem First Nation (dog creek). At the age of 6 years old in 1973, she showed up for her first day of school in a bright orange shirt that her grandmother had just bought for her. the shirt, along with all of her clothes and belongings, was taken away from her upon arrival and she never saw it again. She later was able to tell her story and started this movement, and as a nation we work to take reconciliactions for the horrors faced by the people in residential schools.
