6 days ago, on October 7, we recognized Palestine day, the day Israel officially started attacking Palestine in 2023. Unofficially, Israel has been trying to occupy Palestine since 1948. Palestine was officially a Muslim country, home to many Arab Muslim families, but it housed Christians and Jews as well. In 1947, the United Nations proposed that they split Palestine into two, one part for the Jews (later called Israel) and one part for the Arabs. The Zionist leaders agreed, but the Arabs refused because they claimed that the land was spiritually important to them and was home to the large Muslim population. On May 14, 1948, Palestine was officially declared the State of Israel. War broke out between the new state and the Arab armies that resided nearby, and around 700,000-750,000 Palestinian families were displaced, as well as their homes and villages destroyed. This event, for the Palestinians, was labelled Nakba, meaning 'catastrophe'. In 1949, "peace" was declared. Palestine was confined down to Gaza, a small strip of land no where near the size of what Palestine used to be. The rest of the land was Israel's. From 1950-2022, minor wars broke out between both sides. On October 7, 2023, Israel attacked the Gaza strip, killing hundreds and thousands of Palestinians. From this day to today, over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed, and over half of them have been children under the age of 12. Israel continues to starve and injure Palestinians all across the Gaza strip, with many high-influence Western countries behind them, supporting them.
