The #62 Mazda RX-7 GTO, driven by Pete Halsmer, was a dominant force in the 1991 IMSA GTO Championship. The race car was celebrated for its unique four-rotor engine and aerodynamic, tube-frame chassis. In the 1991 season, the #62 RX-7 contributed five race wins to Mazda's total of 106 IMSA victories. The car also took a 2nd place finish at Road America. Halsmer won the 1991 IMSA Drivers' Championship with the car, and Mazda won the Manufacturers' Championship.
