here's my rating/ranking of the life of a showgirl album!! i'll rate each song in tracklist order and then the final ranking will be at the end :) also please note this is all subject to change!! this is pretty different from my original ranking after first hearing the album, so it could probably change again lol 1. the fate of ophelia i really love this song! i like the production and vocals and it's super catchy, i think it's a great album opener as well. 9.5/10!! 2. elizabeth taylor i think this is a cool song, i love the beat drop and the mysterious vibe. overall it's fun and catchy and reminds me a bit of reputation in terms of production and sound. 8.5/10 3. opalite this is such a fun and upbeat song, it's so pop-y and euphoric. and i love when she goes "and i can bring you looooooovvveee" in the bridge. i'm not a huge fan of the second verse but other than that i think this is a great song!! 8.5/10 4. father figure this is a cool song as well! i love the vibe and sound, and the storytelling and wordplay are pretty cool too. i feel like out of all the songs on the album, this shows her lyricism best maybe? idk, it kinda gives no body no crime vibes in terms of storytelling. at first i didn't love this one as much but i think it's definitely growing on me. 8.5/10 5. eldest daughter i have reallyyyyy mixed feelings about this song. i just feel like overall it could have been written better, although i do like some of the lyrics like "i have been afflicted by a terminal uniqueness" and "when your first crush crushes something kind". i genuinely never thought i'd hear the words "trolling and memes" in a taylor swift song. i especially hate "so we all dressed up as wolves and we looked fire" ....what. i understand the point she's trying to make but i just feel like it could have been executed better!!! sue me i guess. i do love the bridge, but overall i just think the rest of the song falls a bit flat, especially considering that her track fives are known for being the most vulnerable/poetic song on the album. i just don't know what to rate it aaahhhh maybe 6.5/10?? 6. ruin the friendship i actually love this song, i love the visual imagery in the lyrics and it really gives fearless era vibes. it's catchy and a classic taylor swift song, what can i say? 8/10 7. actually romantic girl i don't even wanna talk about this song. i know it's not surprising because taylor is kinda known for writing 'petty' songs in reaction to things other celebrities say about her, but honestly this is just a lousy reaction, it's not a song i'd listen to regularly anyway and i wish it was not on the album!! i said what i said!!! 2/10 8. wi$h li$t not my favourite but i think it's a cool song anyway, i love her vocals in this and i think it's a nice concept. taylor if you don't want to be a billionaire anymore you can just give me your money 7.8/10 9. wood idk i'm just not vibing with this one sorry... i do feel like maybe this should've been the sabrina feature instead lol. 3/10 10. cancelled! i like the vocals and some of the lyrics but idk... i understand the point she's making about how her real friends are the ones who stood by her when she was unfairly 'cancelled' by the media, but idk it kinda doesn't come across that way in the song. i feel like "good thing i like my friends cancelled" and the chorus in general could have been written in a way that makes it clear what she's trying to say. idk. 6/10 11. honey idkkkk it's a sweet song i guess (get it? because honey is sweet? i am so funny) but it's just not my vibe. i feel like other songs she's written with similar concepts just do it better, like sweet nothing for example. 5/10 12. the life of a showgirl feat. sabrina carpenter okayyy i like this, i think their voices sound great together obviously and it's a great album closer. not my absolute favourite but still pretty good!! 8/10 ranking: the fate of ophelia father figure elizabeth taylor opalite the life of a showgirl ruin the friendship wish list eldest daughter cancelled honey wood actually romantic now i'm looking at my ranking and judging myself... please do not hold me to this because it likely will change and i am terrible at ranking things anyway my overall opinion is that it's an alright, almost pretty good album. some songs i like, some songs i don't. i do think a lot of the negative reactions are due to people having super high expectations for the album because they thought it was going to be a concept album with more of a focus on the archetype of a showgirl, but when it wasn't that, they automatically hated it because it didn't meet their expectations. which is fine!! you are allowed to dislike it!!! i'm just trying to explain my thought process and i don't even know if anyone will read this lol. in my opinion it's really not THAT bad, and i definitely don't think it's the downfall of pop music or whatever people are saying lol. the end i hope you have a lovely day/night!! <3
