A limestone cave is a natural underground cavity formed when weakly acidic rainwater dissolves limestone rock over thousands or millions of years. The acidic water seeps through cracks and joints in the rock, widening them until a cave system forms. These caves often contain beautiful, mineral formations called speleothems, such as stalactites and stalagmites.
