Right away she was diagnosed with powerlessness by the doctors; the inability to use Pokemon moves or any sort of magic, exactly what Ryan legitimately suffers from. However, not only were both of Melissa's parents powerless themselves but they shared a resentment towards magic, believing it to be barbaric and horrific. For this reason, they shielded their daughter from the existence of magic until she was ten, the year trainers could recieve their battling license. Until then, Melissa would be homeschooled. Although her parents never explicitly lied to her about the existence of magic, they taught her to fear physical pain and never ask questions about how the world worked. They even moved into a secluded house in Tagtree Thicket to ensure she wouldn't see other people when playing outdoors. But when Melissa was seven, her parents began to notice strange patterns regarding their daughter. Her attention span was growing worse. She was concerningly forgetful too. She was fidgeting. Smelling like flowers. Talking fast. Interrupting lectures. Scabs vanishing within hours. She couldn't focus on her work. She couldn't focus on anything. So when Melissa turned eight, her parents took her to see a doctor for the first time. When the doctor diagnosed Melissa with ADHD, he grew upset they hadn't noticed earlier. He recommended they send her to a public school, which they refused. Then he asked them why. "Sir...You ARE aware powerless girls don't naturally smell like flowers, correct?" ◈Random facts◈ - Melissa inherited dark-type moves and typing from her father's side of the family, which helps her evade Daniel's mind reading and hide her crush on him. She can also use moves a Sprigatito would know, though she tends to have more difficulty with Grass-type moves. - Unlike other Pokemon, Pokeballs with a LOWER catch rate work better on Melissa then HIGHER ones. Before she first began using Pokemon moves, Pokeballs never seemed to work on her at all. ◈Credits◈ - Purrlion and Sprigatito as species belong to Nintendo, Game Freak, and The Pokémon Company. - Melissa as a character belongs to me. - Art drawn on Procreate by me. - Please don't trace, redraw or steal the artwork or character.
