Definitions: Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis — when your body attacks your thyroid gland cuz it thinks it’s a threat. It eventually destroys function, causing hypothyroidism. Chronic Migraines — Migraine headaches that are typically accompanied by other symptoms like nausea, light sensitivity, or vertigo, and occur often. Misophonia — A neurological disorder characterized by a stress response to specific sounds. This causes intense and uncontrollable emotions, physical reactions, and fight-or-flight response. Misokinesia is when the triggers are visual, and Misotactilia is triggers that are felt. SPD(s) — SPD is Sensory Processing Disorder. This can refer to the specific condition, or can be used as a class of disorders. HSD/JHS — Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder (formerly known as Joint Hypermobility Syndrome). Characterized by joints that bend past the normal limit (hyperextend) due to abnormal collagen structure. Can cause joint pain and instability. Diagnosed in lieu of the other symptoms characteristic of hEDS. Zebra Disorders — Disorders that are rare and/or are diagnosed by eliminating other options. The term comes from the saying, “When you hear hoofbeats behind you, don't expect to see a zebra.” Hyperacusis — A disorder that makes sounds seem louder or painful. Can be all sounds or just certain frequencies. Vertigo — A sensation of spinning, moving, or dizziness when you’re still. Hidden Disability — Any condition that isn’t observable from the outside, such as all of the above mentioned conditions.
