Chapter 25 Hello, Anxiety, My Old Friend ---- When we reach the outside of the store, Aternus and Jacob turn to me. “I-What?” ‘Well, you’re the one who got this quest in the first place, so what should we do,’ Aternus signs. I gape and all I hear is just my heartbeat in my ears. /They’re expecting me to lead… Me...The girl who couldn’t k1ll a minotaur on her own a few days ago. The one who passed out. This situation is really bad, then... I wouldn’t trust myself to lead./ “Well… Maybe first, we should figure out where we’re even going to get winged shoes. It’s not like we can just walk into Walmart and get Hermes’s shoes half-off,” I say, plainly. Jacob smirks, “What about Target?” I roll my eyes, “You get my point.” The son of Hephaestus smirks more, “Yeah… I just couldn’t resist.” Now I smirk a bit, “I noticed.” He rubs the back of his neck a bit and I turn to Aternus. “So… Any ideas?” ‘One, we track down Hermes and ask him for a pair, but I don’t think that’ll work.’ I nod, “True… But, then again, it could? We can always try, right?” I’m trying to be positive. I don’t think it’s working, though. Jacob looks at me, confused, and I explain what Aternus said. Afterwards, Jacob just nods and says, “Gods. I need to learn sign language.” Me and Aternus both nod. “So… Where would we find Hermes?” I shrug, and Aternus signs. ‘I have an idea…’ Then, my half-brother leads us and I breathe a sigh of relief. ---- After a few hours, Jacob clears his throat. “Hey, it’s getting late, maybe we should find a place to camp for now.” I turn to look at him while still following Aternus. “Flamehead, I’m sorry to point this out, but, it’s only six.” He nods, “Yeah, but that’s still getting pretty close to sunset and all we’ve eaten today is a bag of chips each.” I sigh and tap Aternus on the shoulder. He turns around and I explain everything in sign language. He nods, signing back, ‘Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.’ “Now all that’s left is to find a place.” Jacob nods, “Idea. Follow me,” and just starts walking towards a neighborhood we had passed earlier. I sigh and follow him, Aternus trailing behind me. ---- Eventually, we came to an apartment building. Jacob leads us up the stairs. We walk three flights up and two doors down, and he knocks on the door. “Jacob…” “Shush and let me knock…” he mutters. I huff and mutter, “you already knocked.” Jacob, either not hearing me, or ignoring me, moved away from the door and peaked through the window. I could hear him muttering something. Then he quickly ran back to the door, knocking me into the railing. He knocked again, a bit louder. Then, someone opened the door…
