Click the sprite to switch to the next part Thumbnail 1- make a sketch. I allow some messy lines and guides, and then I thicken the ones I want to keep. 2- Line art- mostly same thickness, but there are smaller lines for some details. I fill this in to have a base layer to put clipping masks on. 3- I pick my colors, usually one is a complement to the main color. I use the complement and lighter, slightly hue shifted color for highlights. 4,5- make sure that the colors have different hues and not just value. It makes it look a lot less flat. 6- I color everything in, making sure every part is on a clipping mask. That makes it easier to edit and airbrush things individually. 7- I use a dark color on a multiply layer for shadows. 8- Extra shadow and light to make the character blend into the background with. I use an add layer for the light and multiply for the dark. 9- I mess around with a light brush and add little lines of my highlight colors to different places to accent them and I’m done!
