Click the green flag to start the game. You'll start at Stage 1 of Level 1 with 3 lives, 25 moves, and 0 points. 9 tiles arranged in a 3*3 square will appear on the center of the board. Click an empty square to place a tile on that square. If the adjacent tiles add up to the number on the tile placed, that tile will disappear with its adjacent tiles and you'll score points based on the number of tiles removed. If the sum goes over 9 (10 or higher), only the last digit counts. For example, if the tiles adjacent to an empty square are two 7s, one 2, and no other tiles, placing a 6 will clear those tiles because 7+7+2 = 16. If you clear every tile on the board and no more tiles remain on it, the words "STAGE COMPLETE" in green will appear on the screen, you'll receive a bonus based on the number of moves remaining. Click the yellow "NEXT STAGE" button to advance to the next stage. When you run out of moves and any tiles still remain on the board, the words "OUT OF MOVES" in red will appear on the screen and you'll lose a life. (The same thing happens when the board is completely full even if you still have moves remaining, except the words "THE BOARD IS FULL" appear instead in the same color.) Then, click the yellow "RETRY" button to try the same stage again. When you lose all of your lives, it's game over. (The words "GAME OVER" in red will appear on the screen after you click the yellow "RETRY" button.)
The game includes 25 stages divided into 5 levels with 5 stages each with a unique placement of tiles based on the level. Each time a stage begins, the remaining move count will be reset to 25. When tiles are removed from the board, points are scored as follows. 0 tiles (only possible by placing a number 0 tile on a square without any adjacent tiles): 0 points 1 tile: 5 points 2 tiles: 10 points 3 tiles: 20 points 4 tiles: 50 points 5 tiles: 100 points 6 tiles: 200 points 7 tiles: 500 points 8 tiles: 1000 points Points are also scored by completing a stage with moves remaining. In this case, 100 points are scored for each move remaining. For example, if you complete a stage with 14 moves remaining, you'll score 1400 extra points. An extra life will be given at every 10000 points (10000, 20000, 30000, and so on). The maximum number of lives you can hold is 9. When you complete Stage 5 of Level 5, the game loops back to Stage 1 of Level 1 and the game continues while keeping the score and the life count. So, there is no maximum score. In fact, the game will keep counting points even if you have at least 1000000 points, except with the millions digit hidden due to the score display having only six digits.
