What is OSDD? Other Specified Dissociative Disorder (OSDD) is a mental health condition that falls under the umbrella of dissociative disorders, similar to Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). OSDD is diagnosed when a person experiences dissociative symptoms that do not fully meet the criteria for DID but still significantly impact their daily life. Individuals with OSDD may experience a range of symptoms, including memory loss, identity confusion, and a sense of detachment from oneself or reality. OSDD has three subtypes: 1. OSDD-1: This subtype is characterized by the presence of recurrent gaps in memory and two or more distinct identity states, similar to DID, but without the complete separation of identity states seen in DID. Again like DID this get formed due to severe trauma around the ages of 6-11, making the part of the brain that develops personality to split in 2 or more making alters. 2. OSDD-2: This subtype is characterized by chronic and recurrent depersonalization, derealization, or other dissociative symptoms that do not involve distinct identity states. 3.OSDD-3 is a subtype used when someone is experiencing dissociative symptoms that do not fit into OSDD-1 or OSDD-2, but are significant and in need of help. This subtype is used when the dissociative symptoms do not fit into any of the other subtypes of dissociative disorders, but are still causing significant problems in the person's daily life.
