I sat in the car, my parents drove to the hospital. I hated the hospital, where the doctors tested my brain to see if I was still 'sane' or not. "We're here, Kit." Dad said, unbuckling. "Great," I said sarcastically. "Behave, Kit." Mom warned. I clipped my African wild dog tail and put my mask back on, then got out of the car, walking on all fours. "Kit, please," Mom began. I hissed and hopped forward. "My star patient!" Dr. Nicolis called; he reached to take my mask, but I hissed at him. "i don't think they want to be touched right now." Dad said as he sat in a chair. I sat by Dad, mostly since it was the furthest seat from Dr. Nicolis. "I think we should change treatment." Dr. Nicolis started. "Why?"Kit's mom asked? "Kit seems to be sane, so we should treat her as a sane person." Dr. Nicolis said as he took out a small pamphlet. "My college showed me this, i think it will be good for Kit." The pamphlet was for a summer camp, or something similar. "This is a summer house for kids like Kit." "What does /that/ mean?" I spat. I hated how the doctor and my parents talked like I wasn't there. "It means kids who think their animals, wearing the masks you do, walking like that..." "We know we're humans! Therianthropy is an identity! I don't need some summer house!" "Kit, please hear him out. We just want what's best for you." Mom said. "No. You want me to be your image of normal!" I said loudly. "Just hear him out," Mom said again and nodded at Dr. Nicolis to continue. "Depending on how you progress, Kit. You might have to stay for the school year." "I don't need some mental case house! i'm fricking sane! Why can't you see that!?" I yelled and ran out of the room to the car. "Kit..." Dad said gently, opening the back seat door and sitting next to me. "Leave me alone, Dad," I mumbled. "Kit, i don't want you to go to that place. But i have something you might like. Your mom wants you 'cured' or whatever, but i don't want that." "Then why do we come here every week?" I asked, wondering why Dad drove us here if he didn't like it. "Your mother is to blame for that," Dad answered. "I found a summer camp for theri- therin- how do you say the word, again?" Dad sighed. "therian." I input. "Therian, thank you. I found a summer camp for therians. i think you might like it. If mom asks questions about it, i'm saying she doesn't get a say in this, since i didn't get a say in taking you here." "Sweeeet," I hummed. "Know anything about this camp?" "Yea, it lasts all summer and goes into the school year if you want-" I perked up at that. "-yea, i knew you'd like that- anyways," Dad continued. "It's ages 5-18, it's on a huge nature reserve, and has a lot of animals." "Uh-huh." I said, still reeling from the fact that they had 5 and 18-year-olds together. "You okay?" Dad tapped my head. "Y-yea, it's just- they got 5 and 18-year-olds together," i said. "It's not that uncommon... I think." Dad said as he got out of the backseat and went to the driver's seat. Mom got in the passenger's seat and looked at me through the rearview mirror. "/Never/ do that again." She said. "I don't care." I said back. "You will when you're grounded." Mom said, holding out her hand. "Phone, now." "Hold on," Dad cut in. "Maya, Your not grounding Kit because she left early. You and that doctor have no right to treat Kit the way you do, and if you try to take her to one more of these appointments, i will divorce you and make sure you don't get any custody of our daughter." I sat in shock. After a second, I started enjoying the drama. "You wouldn't dare do that!" Mom glared at Dad. "Oh, yes, i would." Dad clapped back. /this is gold/ I thought. I zoned out for a bit as my parents continued fighting in the front seat, thinking about the camp Dad talked about.
