ঌ Emberfall clan ᨒ Blackpaw was stalking along the border of his clan. Rain pattered all around him and got his fur wet, but he kept going. Being a newer apprentice, at only 7 moons old, he shouldn't have been going on a patrol like this alone. But his mentor (Placeholder) decided it would be an important learning experience for him. Other cats might have been scared, but he was just excited to be trustworthy enough to earn this. Suddenly, he heard the distant, annoyed meowing of 2 cats, just close enough to be near the border. He sprinted closer to get a better look. He spotted 2 cats. Latespring, whom he knew, he came around this border from time to time, and a she-cat he didn't. "What are you two doing?" He demanded. "There's no way you can both be from the same clan with the way you're acting, so one of you is trespassing." Latespring rolled his eyes. “Such a foolish young feline,” he hissed in annoyance, glaring at Blackpaw. “We are both medicine cats, we're allowed to trespass to search for herbs. Of course, some... pitiful cats don't understand that.” His paws flicked towards Blackpaw, his ear twitched, and his tail was raised high in the air. “We're not even in your territory.” He added. Blackpaw looks annoyed, but stays calm. I look back to Latespring. "Well, I know you, you come around our border from time to time. That leaves you." I say, looking to the other medicine cat, Jadebuzz. Something feels suspicious about this, Blackpaw thinks to himself. "Even if you aren't breaking any rules, I don't like what's going on here. I'm going to have to see what this little interaction is all about." If there was something going on, surely reporting it would be a service to his clan. Latespring wrinkled his nose and snorted. “What a loser... he's not getting promoted to warrior for this, if he thinks he is,” he whispered to Jazebuzz, flicking his paw towards the other, examining the apprentice's frame. Blackpaw notices your whispers. "You know, I can hear you!" He looks more aggravated. Latespring snickered. "Get out of here, little apprentice. Do you want to be snatched by a hungry fox? You're practically kit size; I wouldn't be surprised if so." He called black, flicking his tail at Blackpaw dismissively. Blackpaw felt anger welling up in him. "Kit sized? I'm fully grown and bigger than most other males! How about you get along with what you're doing if it's so important?" Blackpaw rudely suggests. Latespring hissed in reply, with a harsh thrash of his tail. "I would've liked to be here, at peace, alone." his words were tainted with bitterness at the end, glaring at the two felines. "Before I was interrupted by a poor apprentice and a foolish medicine cat." His weight moved down to a sitting position, his nose wrinkled. "Must you all have to crowd me? Birdbrains! Go to your own clan." Blackpaw watched as Jadebuzz snatched Latespring's herb bundle. Latespring immediately took it back, and the 2 cats continued to bicker. Blackpaw yawned and wondered if something was actually going to happen soon. They were just arguing. This keeps going on for a little while until Latespring finally gets tired of it. He began to pad back to his own camp, herb bundle in his jaws. "Well, if you're splitting up, I'm leaving too. I guess you 2 didn't do anything wrong." Blackpaw adds, walking back to his territory as well. "Why don't you go find your own Marigold without bickering with other cats?" Blackpaw adds, intentionally unhelpfully, to Jadebuzz. He finally gets back to camp, ready to report the rising tensions to his leader, but Nightstar is nowhere to be found. "I'll tell him in the morning," he says to himself, going to sleep in his nest in the apprentice's den. ______________________ঌ______________________
ϟ Thundershade clan ϟ Lacestar was padding back to her camp through the misty forest, a fresh brown rabbit dangling from her jaws. Light rain drizzled over her fur as she kept her eyes alert. She moved quietly, aware of any movement around her. She was always looking out for danger; that's how she became the leader of her clan. She sensed a presence. Mousewhisker appeared out of nowhere from behind a tree. He was startled at the sight of his leader, but quickly jumped back into alert position, his ears back and eyes wide, before he recognized her. “Oh. Hey, Lacestar. I, uh…I didn’t do that. That wasn’t me,” he readjusts himself, blinking innocently, “Hunt went well?” Lacestar chuckled to herself, watching Mousewhisker’s startled reaction. “The hunt went well, Mousewhisker,” she said, letting out another soft laugh as her tail flicked. She nudged him gently, signaling for him to walk with her as she headed toward camp. “The land’s been scarce of prey lately,” she added with a hushed tone, "We might have to start hunting in other clan territory." That was another reason she was the leader of Thundershade clan-she was willing to do anything for them, even if it was difficult, sneaky, or outright against the warrior code. Mousewhisker was surprised at her suggestion. “Oh…um…maybe…I think I’ll be able to manage here, I, uh…I have a way of digging out the voles and other…stuff. I’m doing great. Prospering. You, and uh…some of the designated hunters can go have fun with that,” he laughed, nervously. Mousewhisker truly did live up to his name—he fell short, a little closer to prey than predator, when faced with any kind of confrontation. He hated fighting, so if it was unnecessary…he’d avoid it. Lacestar gave him a soft, encouraging smile, her tail brushing lightly against his. “Well, if anyone can handle the voles, it’s you, Mousewhisker,” she said warmly. “Don’t worry about the rest- we’ve got it. Just focus on what you do best, okay?” She gave a little nod, her eyes kind and reassuring. Mousewhisker's nervous stance shifted into relief as she spoke, bowing at her. “Thank you, Lacestar. I won’t disappoint you." Lacestar continued smiling and faced forward. However, her smile shifted into a little frown. Mousewhisker was acting suspiciously. He wanted to stay alone in the clan and seemed even more scared than usual, and he was hiding behind that tree. What was he up to that he couldn't tell her of all cats? ______________________ϟ______________________
