Eclipse unfolded her deep blue wings, feathers glinting in the starlight. The wind ruffled her feathers and blew across her fur, and she felt lighter already. She flaps her wings, gliding higher in the sky. The stars gleam, blinking on and off. Eclipse looks back, just barely noticing the raven-black wings below her. She smiles. Naturally Ebony would be following her. Eclipse feels a twinge of anticipation. "Stop that," she tells herself. "Mother would kill you if she knew!" "Hey," Ebony calls, "Fancy meeting you here." Eclipse blushes as he beats his wings faster to catch up to her. Their wings brush together as they glide in the night sky. "So," she says. "Why did you fly all the way up here?" He looks at her innocently. "Why not?" "There better be a good reason this time," Eclipse murmurs. "You know that Shimmer doesn't want us together." "Well," Ebony starts, looking away at the moon, "I was wondering, if, well..." He pauses, and looks up at her. Eclipse catches the intensity in his eyes, the longing, the flicker of fear. "I'm going to run away," he says softly. "And I was hoping you would come with me." * * *
