Remembrance day: Remembrance Day originated from the end of World War I, when an armistice was signed at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918, to end the fighting. Originally called Armistice Day, it was first observed in 1919 and became a day of remembrance for the war's veterans and casualties. The name was officially changed to Remembrance Day in Canada in 1931 after a bill was passed to permanently fix it on November 11.
