that's Miracle Sonic, by the way. The abilities Sonic possesses will allow him to buy time for Knuckles and Tails to seize the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds, so Sonic has a chance to beat Eggman once and for all. Eggman harnessing the Chaos Emeralds, Master Emerald, and Phantom Ruby all together means NOBODY can defeat him, not even Sonic. That is why Sonic is merely distracting Eggman from the others. (Maybe once Tails and Knuckles get the Emeralds back, they could join Sonic to help him...)
