I stare at my mother as she crowns me the new princess of the kingdom of Palem. I turn around keeping my head up as everyone bows. The party continues and I escape to my room tears threatening to spill out. I throw myself into my room locking the door. "Why did you have to leave," I sob, I drop to my knees throwing my head onto my bed. I turn my head looking at the picture beside my bed. A girl with wavy brown hair and tan skin and light brown eyes stares back at me smiling. I look away crying. "A princess should never be caught being weak." My mother says from behind me. I look up turning around. "How did you get in... I locked my door!" I say looking past her at my now wide opened door. She pulls keys from behind her back jingling them at me. I frown smoothing a wrinkle in my baby pink dress. "Allison, you have to come back downstairs and dance with the guest." my mother says grabbing my hand helping me stand up. I nod looking down. She wipes a tear away. "I'll send Harper to help you fix up," she says leaving my room. A couple seconds later a girl with blonde hair and grey eyes walks in. "Allie, you need to do something with this hair!" Harper said sitting me down at my makeup table. She pulled and tugged at my hair weaving it into a crown on top if my head. My face framing out and curled. Harper bows and grins at her work. Harper was my only friend in the palace. She lived in the palace ever since we found her at our door when we were eight years old. She was all alone. So we took her in and a maid adopted her, and then she became my lady in waiting and best friend ever. She fixes my tiara quickly before grabbing my hand and running down the hallway I laugh as I fail to attempt to grab my dress so I don't trip. She stops in front of the stairs letting go of my hand. "I'll be in the kitchen if you need me." Harper whispers to me. I nod holding my head up walking down the steps slowly. Everything seems to stop as everyone stares at me. My shoes clicking against the stairs is the only sound. I reach the bottom of the stairs as everyone bows. I look at my mom as she mouths to me bow. I bow back as gracefully as I can and she nods in approval as the music starts back up and everyone goes back to talking. I take my time as I walk around saying hello and thank you for coming. A do a couple of dances with princes from different kingdoms. At the end of the party I stand at the door as I say goodbye to everyone who came. And that was a lot of people. I escape quickly back to my room putting my tiara on one of my shelves. I sigh as I change out of ball gown and put on pants and t-shirt. I fall face first onto my bed as I groan. I was never going to get used to being first in line for the throne.
