The salty air bit at her skin. She couldn’t feel anything. The only thing she heard from above was her name being shouted, and even that was engulfed by the wind. She couldn't take a breath before— Her back slammed into the water. *** Thatch’s throat felt raw from yelling her name. Splitjaw, his axe, hit the ground so hard the wood splintered. The sound followed—her body hitting the water. The sirens froze. All of them. It made Thatch uneasy. The sirens slinked back into the water, one by one. Leaving the blood-slick deck mostly empty. Thatch took a shaky breath before running forward. He made it to the rim, grabbing it to peer over. His horns cast a shadow over his face. The water was calm. Of course. It felt like it taunted him. It wouldn’t return her, it never did. Not without a price. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guys, I use em-dashes in my writing. The two main character idiots for my pirate story. Coral Vire, the captain of the Azure Flag. Came from the trading isles, started the crew when she was seventeen! (Fun fact: she's 30 in book 1). Found some miserable mercenary guy and made him join her crew (she asked first but yk). Thatch Stronghorn, the first mate/enforcer/master-at-arms of the Azure Flag. Came from the brutal north. He was a mercenary until Coral decided to pick him up. Never left her side since. (Joined the crew when he was 23; Coral was 20 at the time) I love these silly guys so much *casually throws more trauma at them* None of them have a planned death fyi (the second thing for Thatch was him being knocked out kinda-) any questions about these idiots?? I wanna yap about them.
