(btw it takes place 1993) Sunlight filled my room with a gold, soft glow through the left window next to me. I pulled my gray and white plaid blanket over my head, trying to get a few more minutes of sleep. Obviously, it didn’t work—I had awoken again to the horrid beeping of my alarm clock. I reached my pale arm from under the blanket and mindlessly slapped the black flat GE clock sitting on the brown wooden drawer next to my bed. Eventually, I gave up and sank onto the bed’s edge. I pressed the button that said “Sleep” and glanced at the clock. The red digital numbers glared back at me: 6:00. A wave of dread washed over me at the thought of another day of boredom at school. “Luna! You’re going to be late for school! Get up already!” my dad frantically shouted from downstairs. I let out a long, exaggerated sigh and muttered, “Wow, thanks for the heads-up, Dad, as if I didn’t already know that.” I rubbed my blue eyes and brushed my short blond hair off my face. As I stepped toward the drawer to get dressed, my gaze drifted upward, and I noticed the posters above my head. A red and black Jurassic Park poster hung on the wall, and nearby, Nirvana and Guns N’ Roses posters were taped crookedly, with curled edges. My green lava lamp bubbled softly on the table across from me, casting a warm glow that illuminated the stacks of DVDs and cassette tapes underneath—some leaning, some scratched—evidence of countless late-night movie marathons. My bed hugged the slanted roof, leaving just enough room to move around comfortably. I opened the drawer, pulled out a pair of blue jeans and a white T-shirt with a greenish raptor on it, outlined in purple and blue, and the words “Clever Girl” printed boldly. Quickly dressed, I grabbed my bag off the green beanbag chair and ran out of my bedroom. As I rushed down the stairs, the smell of bacon and pancakes wafted through the air. By the time I had entered the kitchen, I saw a plate of syrup drizzled, and butter topped pancakes. The crispy red bacon lay next to the pancakes.
