Press Q to enable Negative Leap Seconds (removes 1 second) Press E to enable Positive Leap Seconds (adds 1 second) (The clock's colour will change to signal which leap second you have enabled: Red for Positive, Blue for Negative) (Yes, I know I haven't been posting for a long time, I'm busy with doing nothing)
Leap seconds are (or were depending on when you're reading this) a real thing that I only found about until recently. They're one-second adjustments to atomic time (UTC) to keep it in sync with the Earth's slightly slowing rotation (kinda like leap years, but at a smaller scale). I made this project as a simple way to simulate what experiencing one might be like, since I never got to see one for myself :( Rather unfortunate news here: Leap seconds are planned to be phased out by 2035 or maybe earlier, so we might not ever get one again. (Also, this project is kind of a creative liberty lol, alarm clocks would probably just hold the timer at "23:59:59" for more than one second instead of displaying the fabled "23:59:60".)
