Kingdom/Biome: Oh'zaralyn [oh-zar-AH-linn] The main city of Oh'zaralyn is tucked deep in the desert, surrounded by towering plateaus and mesas. there is a hidden, narrow path, to reach the center, that isn't well known-- keeping the kingdom safe from harm but cut off from the others. this city is the capital and is called Shan'vayly [Shawn-VAY-lee] even reaching the plateaus is hard as they are surrounded by sand dunes and scorching deserts. There are a few smaller establishments centered around oasis's that can be used as rest stops before the reaching the kingdom. there is a hidden river under the plateaus, a cavern was found in the early stages of building and a passage way was created for easier access to the water. this river is considered sacred as it is the only reason the city can survive. the buildings in the main city are created from a mix of sandstone, limestone, and granite. they also used bricks cut from the walls of the plateau. the buildings are often close together or connected, build like adobes. the villages and cities around the scattered oases have a variety of different houses, some small building made from wood of the tree surrounding the water, other having limestone buildings, and some having tent-like structures. there are also a group of nomadic people that live in this area, moving around the sand dunes and navigating the plateaus, they utilize horses with wagons, camels, and carrying their belongings on their back. they make camps using easily portable tents. Animals: Namib Desert Horse, lot of lizard, snake, spider, and scorpion species, fennec foxes, roadrunners, camels, sand cats, caracal, owls, armadillo. Magic: Not everyone has magic in this kingdom, but Oh'zaralyn does have two types of magic. The more common and prevalent magic is the ability to control wind. this power is normally utilized to lift the sand using the wind and is more powerful when in open space. a person with this magic is called a phyr'va. [fur-VAH] these people live a normal, average life. The more revered magic type is the ability to control water. they only can manipulate existing water. a person with this magic is called a Ah'zari'hy [ah-zar-EE-hi] these people are sacred to the kingdom of Oh'zaralyn and are in charge of maintain the river and water supply. they are considered holy, and are often taken from their homes and brought to live and train in the palace. once fully trained, they will either remain at the palace to maintain the sacred river or be sent to work in one of the oasis towns. Clothing: lots of layers in lightweight material to protect from the sun / sand, but not overheat. linens, finely woven wool, etc. normally in pale colors, beige, white, maybe an orange or a yellow. dyes aren't commonly accessible-- so the richer the person is the more colorful their garments will be. for traveling, hair and facial coverings are common-- usually scarves wrapped around the head. sometimes hooded cloaks with another fabric for face, or even bandanna like items. arrangement of shoes, from light sandals, to espadrille like flats, to boots. heels are rarely seen. Jewelry: Lots of gold, silver isn't really common here but not unheard of. Similar to how colors work, people show their wealth through jewelry. so most people work really hard to keep theirs clean and it is normally passed down through the generations. Common jewelry is, necklaces, bracelets, ankles, earrings and other piercings, arm cuffs, Maang Tikkas, circlets, rings, and other hair jewelry. homemade jewelry is common for the poorer community, pieces of fabric woven or wrapped with pendants or charms. Ruling Authority: The kingdom of Oh'zaralyn runs on a constitutional monarchy. The head ruler, who is called the Zaran [ZAR-in] regardless of gender, has the most power, but has a council of 3-7 people. These people are often close with the Zaran and stem from a wide range of backgrounds, from a family member of the Zaran, to a military leader, or commons person representative. A council member is called a Na'min [NAH-mm-in-]. It is common for the spouse of the Zaran to be apart of this council, but if the spouse isn't they hold no power and are addressed as Zyra [ZEE-rah], regardless of gender. The Oasis towns often have local leaders called Ph'ara [ph-AYE-ruh], who report back to the Zaran and must follow all the laws of the land but can make their own rules as well
[con't] Other Details: Henna and Jagua is a big part of their culture and daily life. It's not uncommon for people to have a lot of different designs. Another thing that is similar to henna is called Oronna [or-oh-NAH], which a liquid gold paint that when applied to skin stains it as a metallic gold color. Oronna is semi-permanent and can last for months, people normally get touch ups when the stain goes dull. The bank of the underground river is clay, so they are very big on pottery and other sculptures. A very artisan focused kingdom.
