I run into my room and slam the door behind me, breathing fast. My head pounds as I slowly fall onto my knees. I almost had a panic attack at school and the aftereffects were still pressing onto me. There was only one way to fix this, so I stumbled over to my gear box and clicked the lock open. Pulling out my most comfortable mask, a calico cat with feathers glued to the side, I pull her over my eyes and select my dusky-brown tail and a pair of paws. Feeling instantly calmer, I walk over to my window and slip out into the chilly air.
I meet Lake at my den, trotting over just as I left my lynx shift. "Hi!" She meows and smiles. "Hello, Copper." I duck into the den and curl onto the mossy floor. "So, what should we name our pack?" Lakes eyes glint in the gloom. "I was thinking..... maybe Sparrow Pack?" I chuff, shaking my head. "No, I want us to sound fierce!" "Hmm, okay. How about Storm Pack?" A thrill of certainty rushes through me as I nod enthusiastically. "Yes!" We quickly decide(after a short stare-off) that I will be the alpha, and Lake will be the beta. We spend the rest of the evening play-fighting and practicing quads. When the sun starts to sink, I begin to pad back to the house. "Bye, Copper!" barks Lake. I blush and meow back, "Goodbye, Lake! Seeya tomorrow!"
