The Anthem of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (Imnul Republicii Sovietice Socialiste Moldovenești) was the official anthem of Soviet Moldova from 1945 until 1991. It was known as “Moldova Sovietică” (“Soviet Moldavia”) and reflected both Moldovan cultural identity and Soviet ideology. Adoption: First adopted in 1945, replacing The Internationale as the anthem of the Moldavian SSR. Lyrics: Written by Emilian Bucov and Bogdan Istru, two Moldovan poets. Music: Composed by Ștefan Neaga in 1945; later revised in 1980 by Eduard Lazarev to remove references to Stalin. After the collapse of the USSR in 1991, Moldova briefly reverted to “Deșteaptă-te, române!” before adopting “Limba noastră” in 1994 as its current national anthem.
