OFFICIAL SCRIPT (PART 1: THE COLD OPEN) EST. RUNTIME: 2 MINUTES [SCENE START] SCENE 1 EXT. 1930s CARTOON - DAY SOUND: Scratchy, upbeat 1930s public domain ragtime music We open on a "Steamboat Willie" style world. Black and white. Simple, bouncy shapes. INKY (a 1930s "rubber-hose" cartoon character) is happily hopping down a path. He has pie-cut eyes, big gloves, and a permanent, goofy grin. A steaming, delicious PIE appears on a windowsill. Inky's eyes turn into PIES. He zips over. SOUND: Classic "BOING" sound He's about to grab it when a giant, disembodied "Creator" HAND (drawn in a modern, sketchy style) snatches it away.
INKY
> (In a fast-paced, 1930s "radio" voice) > Hot dog! You'll have to be quicker than that, Mr. Hand! Inky zips off. The Hand chases him. It's a classic cartoon chase. The Hand SLAMS down. Inky dodges. SOUND: "CRASH" (cymbal and bass drum) Inky tips his "hat" (which is just part of his head) and winks at the camera. Suddenly, the Hand stops. It clenches into a fist. It PUNCHES the ground. SOUND: "SPLAT!" (a wet, digital sound, NOT a cartoon sound) The "punch" tears a hole in the fabric of the cartoon. The screen rips open, revealing a new "layer" underneath: a digital, sterile, "whiteboard" void. Inky looks at the hole. He looks at the camera.
INKY
> (Dazed) > Golly! What a wallop! The Hand reaches through the hole, grabs Inky, and PULLS him out of the 1930s world. SOUND: A horrible, high-pitched "STRETCH" sound Inky is unceremoniously "pasted" onto the white void. He's flat, like a sticker.
INKY
> (To the "audience") > What a pal, that Mr. Creator! Always knows how to start a new adventure! Inky "pops" back into 3D, now standing in this new, empty world. SCENE 2 INT. SKETCHBOOK VOID - CONTINUOUS SOUND: Music cuts. Dead, sterile silence. This world is a blank digital canvas. We see the FAINT GRAY GRID of a drawing program. In the corner, we see the UI for a "Toolbox" (Pen, Eraser, Paint Bucket). Inky dusts himself off.
INKY</(center> > Well, this is a new pickle! The disembodied "Creator" Hand appears again, but this time it's attached to a giant, realistic computer CURSOR. The CURSOR clicks on the PEN TOOL. SOUND: "CLICK!" Inky watches, fascinated. The CURSOR moves to the middle of the screen. With a few, fast, sketchy strokes, it draws a lanky, unfinished stick-figure. It's STATIC. He's just a pencil sketch, with faint blue "construction lines" still visible. The CURSOR finishes the sketch. It draws two simple eyes. The eyes BLINK. Static looks down at his "sketchy" hands.
STATIC
> (Groggy, medium-low voice) > ...Wha? He looks around, confused and annoyed.
STATIC
> (Coughs) > Hello? He sees Inky, who is waving enthusiastically.
STATIC
> (Panicked) > Ah! What's... what's wrong with my...?! > This isn't my room. Where am I? What's going on?! > HELLO! IS ANYONE THERE?!
INKY
> (Walking over, still chipper) > Howdy, partner! Name's Inky! Looks like the Creator whipped us up a brand new... The CURSOR moves back to the TOOLBOX. It clicks on the ERASER tool. SOUND: A different, more ominous "CLICK." The CURSOR moves over to Inky.
INKY
> (Waving at the Cursor) > Hiya, pal! Whatcha got there? A new... The CURSOR moves down. The Eraser tool touches Inky's "foot." His foot vanishes. SOUND: A horrible, fuzzy "ERASER" sound. Inky looks at the empty space where his foot was. He looks at Static. He looks at the camera. His "pie-eyes" go wide.
INKY
> (Gasping, terrified) > Oh, pickles. RUN! The CURSOR rears back, ready to erase ALL of Inky.
STATIC
> (Scared) > AAH! Static grabs Inky's hand.
