[OPINIONATED RANT] Soooo I’ve been seeing a lot of users recently on Scratch that are apart of the “RCTA” fandom. If you’re unaware, the abbreviation stands for “Race Change To Another”. This is wrong in so many ways that I can’t hardly explain. At first I thought it was a joke because I hardly saw it but I was soon proven oh so wrong. The idea of RCTA is disrespectful to honestly everyone. The most popular form of it is people claiming to transition to being Japanese just because they like the “aesthetic” or claim to feel connected to the culture in such a way that they just decide to be Japanese?? People like this will also make face claims (which is disrespectful to the faces they claim are theirs as it is another form of identity theft honestly), voice claims, and often change their name to match a stereotypical name of someone who is the culture they are “identifying” as. [I think the main point is that these people are obsessed with the Hollywood stereotypes of a culture/race] It is hard to talk to these people as they never have a good argument as to why they decide to be RCTA. All of the people I’ve ever talked to about this end up insulting me or ghosting the conversation. It’s like talking to a brick wall. I’m sorry but if someone who has been following me is RCTA seeing this, just know I will never agree with your decision to do this at all. I’m still partly convinced anyone who does this is seeking attention or ragebaiting. Despite this, please don’t go out actively harassing RCTA people. In conclusion: You can like a culture, you can take part in sharing a culture, but you can NOT claim to be a race that literally isn’t yours. RCTA is NOT valid and it is toxic as it promotes hurtful stereotypes.
Uh uh extra comments: Why do they think that “American” is a race </3
