It's a song of the Philippine Revolution composed in November 1896 by Julio Nakpil at the request of Andres Bonifacio as the anthem of the revolutionary Tagalog Republic, and the first anthem made for the Philippine nation. However, the republic was displaced and superseded by the First Philippine Republic, the same one that ordered the execution of Andres on May 7th of that same year, but even then, it was still played until 1899, when it was forgotten, lost to time... UNTIL NOW!!! (Unfortunately, the original lyrics and music sheet was destroyed in the 1945 Battle of Manila during World War II, and the recording you hear now from this project is a reconstruction based on Nakpil's own memory, which means, we may NEVER get to hear the original anthem of the Philippines...)
