A month and a half ago, I wrote an application for the National English Honor Society in response to the prompt, "Your houseplant is dying. Write to your plant, explaining why it needs to live." In my typical fashion, I took this quite loosely, and I ended up with a draft of a person who has tried and tried again to take care of their plants yet keep failing. I had this strange stroke of inspiration a few days ago to rewrite said application as my entry for the writing competition, including a bit more of the story leading up to the event as well. This was the result. Most of this has been originally written for the SWC writing competition this November, but I did use bits and pieces from my application that I revised slightly to better fit with the rest of the piece. Maybe one day I'll share the original, haha- Anyway. I hope you enjoy! ~ Word count: 1,936 words (I didn't use 64 of the words? Shocking.) ~ Credits: Thank you to the NEHS prompt choosers (?) who decided on such a wonderful prompt, because I had so much fun with this. Thank you to Kiara and Luna for critiquing this on such short notice as well—I really appreciate it! ~ Notes: Super lazy slides because I'm so tired and am running out of time at this point, aslkfjsl-
