We’re here to hunt, not fight. We've already fought today.” another cat said. Stormshadow recognised Willowfern and her apprentice, and ducked behind a large column of rocks. Dreamstar, while a fox-heart, was still smart. She would never let Stormshadow go through her territory when she had fought her just a few hours ago. “Fox-dung.” Stormshadow hissed under her breath. She walked along the dark rocks, careful not to slip. She held her breath as pebbles cascaded down at every step. They snuck onto our territory, why shouldn’t I sneak onto theirs? Not like those fish-brained ShoreClan cats would notice anyway. “Come out!” Wetwater snarled. “Come face us like a warrior.” Stormshadow couldn’t speak. Wetwater had just said to come out and face them like a warrior. How DARE he address her when he was the one that unalived Aspenstar!? “NO!” She yowled. “You don’t get to talk to me after what you did!” A few moments passed, and Stormshadow was flung off of her paws. The world spun for a second, and then she hit a rock. The breath was knocked out of her for a few moments, and she took deep breaths before rolling away from Wetwater’s claw swipes. The two were fighting on a large, hexagonal rock, quite far from shore. Waves of increasing size started to smack against the stones as the sky darkened with storm clouds. And as she traded blows with Wetwater, she knew that neither of them could win. So she did the next best thing. She started to pounce, yet the crackle of thunder startled her. Instead of slamming Wetwater into a wall of rock, she smacked his face with her paw, and they both fell into the churning waters. Stormshadow’s entire world was spinning. Wetwater had been thrown into the jagged rocks, while she was towards the main ocean. Waves threw her against the rocks when she wasn’t ten tail lengths underwater. Stormshadow could barely feel the pain anymore, just a numb coolness. The shouts of ShoreClan cats and the splash of someone falling in was the last thing Stormshadow heard before her world went dark.
ShoreClan “Those mouse-brained, snake-eating fox-hearts!” Stonepaw growled. “I’m going to bite a mange-pelt in the face today again!” “Woah, Stonepaw, watch your language.” Sandstripe said, laughing. As a young warrior, it felt like she was still an apprentice, although the apprentice’s den had never felt more empty. Even with Tallpaw’s loud snoring. Willowfern, Stonepaw’s mentor, sighed. “Stonepaw, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’re here to hunt, not fight. We’ve already fought today.” “Look!” Foxpaw exclaimed. He squinted to find a dark gray pelt with darker spots up ahead. RainClan trespassers! How dare they after this morning? At sunrise that day, RainClan had started a fight when ShoreClan accidentally trespassed. Very sneaky, getting back at us the same way we started this morning. “Come out!” Wetwater snarled. “Come face us like a warrior.” There was silence for a few seconds, followed by a yowl of pure fury and pain. “NO! You don’t get to talk to me after what you did!” shouted Stormshadow. Malice creased Wetwater’s face. He stalked towards the voice, and leapt, hitting Stormshadow and pinning her against a rock. Wetwater attempted to scratch her while she was stunned, but she managed to roll out of the way. This is way too dangerous! They’re no longer on the rocks on the shore, but in the middle of the ocean! Foxpaw thought, his anxiety increasing. The two were fighting on a large, hexagonal rock, quite far from shore. Waves of increasing size started to smack against the stones as the sky darkened with storm clouds. Foxpaw saw her about to pounce, but before he could warn Wetwater, the loudest thunderbolt he’d ever heard erupted in his ears, causing him to recoil in shock. When he regained his composure, Stormshadow was in midair, currently smacking the ShoreClan deputy in the face. And time seemed to freeze. But the moment the ringing in Foxpaw’s ears stopped, the two were already underwater, with Stormshadow being thrown against the dark rocks and pulled under the surface. He tore his gaze away from her towards the jagged rocks where Wetwater was being tumbled around. “We need to save him!” Dreamstar yowled. “It’s too late, we’ll unalive if we try!” Sandstripe shouted. “What about Stormshadow, we could save her?” Willowfern suggested. “No way!” Honeysong, one of the senior warriors, shouted loudly. Stormshadow’s struggles were already getting weaker, and her eyes were beginning to lose focus and drift closed. Foxpaw couldn’t think rationally, and the only thing he thought he could do was jump in and help. And so he did both the bravest and dumbest thing he’d ever done in his life. He leapt into the water. Foxpaw had aimed for Wetwater, but was tumbled away to RainClan’s leader-to-be. Guess I’m saving Stormshadow? he thought, and followed the current towards her. Foxpaw propelled himself underwater and grabbed Stormshadow’s scruff like he would to a kit, even though it was disrespectful. He managed to bring them both upwards despite her weight and grab onto a log that Dreamstar had thrown in. He placed Stormshadow on top so she wouldn’t drown and held on with his front paws, taking a deep breath as a giant wave cascaded down on them. Then darkness arose.
