Warrior Code: SECTION 1 - Expectations of being a Warrior 1. Protect your clan, even with your life. Friendships with unknown others are punishable. 2. Elders and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. 3. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to the Great Light for blessing us. 4. After passing their warrior assessment, apprentices earn their warrior names. Newly appointed warriors will travel to the Misty Gaze to see the Great Lights and thank the ancestors. They should know the way. 5. Any warrior can be given an apprentice to train by the leader. This warrior shall act as the apprentice’s mentor in the warrior code and the skills of being a warrior. A mentor should treat their apprentice with kindness and patience, and use positive reinforcement to encourage growth. If a mentor is struggling with their apprentice, they must talk to the leader in order to seek any sort of disciplinary actions beyond chores. 6. Cats from the clan should not try to impose jurisdiction over how others choose to run themselves. 7. Cats from different lifestyles, whether that be clan, a wanderer, or a trap-cat, are to be regarded and treated with respect unless causing harm. 8. Understand that the clan is powerful because of our differences. Attempting to separate it will displease the ancestors of The Great Light. 9. A warrior understands that the life of a warrior will not always be easy, and will stand with their clan even in trying times. 10. A warrior does not need to kill to win their battles, unless it is an absolute necessity for self-defense. Unnecessarily taking a life is deeply dishonorable and can have steep punishments in both life and with the Great Light. —— SECTION 2 - Leadership 1. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice. The leader chooses the deputies. 2. When the leader dies or retires, the clan will vote on a new leader from the two deputies. The one not chosen will remain a deputy. 3. In the case of the death or retirement of a deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh, the other will take over any duties. 4. A leader is marked by the nine lives they earn from the Great Light and “star” replacing the last part of their warrior name. No cat other than the leader can have “star” as any part of their name. 5. It is a leader’s duty to set an example of what a warrior should be. The leader must provide for their clan above all else, and should work as hard for their clan as nine warriors. 6. If a leader, deputy, or healer must temporarily step down due to illness, injury, or nursing kits, they must ensure another qualified and trustworthy cat can take their place until they return. A temporary leader will not be granted nine lives or the star suffix. 7. The leader determines consequences for misbehavior in warriors and apprentices. The leader cannot punish cats with banishment or exile unless the cat has broken the warrior code. A leader can never punish a cat with physical harm or death. 8. The leader of a clan can temporarily change or add to the warrior code for their clan with approval from their deputies, one healer, and the majority of the warriors. 9. A clan cannot be without leader for more than a half moon. Cats can decide amongst themselves how to pick a new leader if there is no deputy. Should there be no leader by the time a half moon is up, the Great Light will choose the next leader once a cat visits the Misty Gaze. 10. If a leader is treasonous to the warrior code, cats of that clan reserve the right to remove the leader from their position with the approval of the deputies and the healers OR two thirds of all the clan’s warriors. —— SECTION 3 - Regulations 1. No warrior may neglect a kit in pain or in danger, no matter the background of the kit. 2. Do not hunt or trespass on unknown territory. 3. A kit must be at least five moons old to become an apprentice. 4. A gathering of the clan is held at the bright eye of the Great Light during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among cats at this time. 5. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Question all trespassing cats. 6. Official changes to the warrior code can be made with support of the leader along with their deputies and healers and approval of the Great Light presiders. 7. The clan you reside in is the only clan with jurisdiction over you. 8. Healers must avoid conflict. Even in battles, healers must treat fellow others with kindness and civility. 9. A kit cannot be punished for going against the warrior code, as the kit has not been taught the code yet. 10. Borders and permissions to cross will be determined by the clan. In a disagreement between clan and outsider, battle should be a last resort, only if negotiations are not possible.
