✪ Update 7 ... Hatering Fifi ..! ✪ ... 12/3/25 … This week, our second session, me and Phoenix worked on haltering! We kept it super lax since this was a new concept and traditionally one desensitizes their horse before haltering, but Fifi has been lightly desensitized before and collectively we decided the best way to proceed with her training would be to get right to haltering! We of course are still going to take proper precautions to desensitize her, but it it in our best intentions that she moves on in her progress. I woke up very early this morning to start the day off strong, and ate a light breakfast before heading down to the barn. Nix has been settling in well, but still is wary of the other horses. Before our session today I contacted the head of Foxtrot Stables, Foxy, to talk about how we should progress in our training. She has been lightly worked with before , so we put this into consideration! The expectations for today were just to get a feel for the halter and lead rope on. We started off the session strong, even though Fifi was a bit rowdy! I took my time and let her too, and she had a very nice response to the halter. Looking at the records, she’s always been comfortable being touched around but prone to bucking and rarely biting when touched around the belly. Another part of our daily routine is to brush lightly around the face and neck, and sometimes on certain days when she’s peppy, do some brushing and patting on the hind legs. I clipped the lead rope on, and she was definitely a bit wary. She eyed it and whinnied softly, but I used gentle reinforcement wit( voice aids and some loving pets t9 win her over. I led her about a couple times with my other hand attached lightly but firmly to her halter, and she quickly understood the purpose. She is such a smart pony, I can’t gush enough about her! Then, taking a little adventure, we went to the arena! I clipped the rope off, had her stand still for a moment with some treats, and let her loose to properly get a feel for it. I then brought her back, and let he4 roam in the pasture. Overall we had a great session today! Still planning out my future for this promising prospect, but I think she would excel at any discipline! Tune in for next week!
