The Shingo Sparviero (Sparrowhawk in Italian) was released in 1990 after 4 years of development as Shingo's foray into the large sedan scene. It was referred to as "Shingo's Wager" because it came with a turbocharged V8. Although very well-received upon launch, it was soon found that the wheel bearings had a tendency to break apart while driving, resulting in catastrophic incidents in which the affected wheel would detach without warning. After a series of high-profile incidents, some leading to major crashes, a mass recall was announced in 1992, with every one of the 4 million produced up until then affected. By 1994 the recall was settled, and the car no longer had that issue. Despite that, 15 million were sold until 2010, when the car was finally discontinued due to the onset of the financial woes of Shingo. Eicher also made a rebadged version.
