Leaders are granted nine lives by StarClan and have a name ending with the suffix "-star". They oversee all daily operations and represent the Clan at Gatherings. Deputy: Second-in-command to the leader, the deputy assists with the leader's tasks and organizes the daily hunting and border patrols. The deputy is expected to become the next leader and must have mentored at least one apprentice before being appointed to the position. They sleep in the warriors' den. Medicine Cat: The healer and spiritual guide of the Clan. Medicine cats gather and use herbs to treat the sick and injured, interpret omens and prophecies from StarClan, and visit the Moonpool/Moonstone every half-moon to communicate with their ancestors. They are forbidden from having a mate or kits and remain neutral in Clan rivalries. Warrior: Adult cats who make up the main force of the Clan. Their primary duties are to hunt for food, mark and defend the Clan's territory, and engage in battles when necessary. They follow the warrior code and train apprenticesApprentice: A cat at least six moons old who is training to become a full warrior (or medicine cat apprentice, if they choose that path). They are assigned a warrior mentor who teaches them hunting and fighting skills. Apprentices also perform chores around the camp, such as bringing prey to the elders and changing their bedding. Their name ends with the suffix "-paw". Queen: A she-cat who is pregnant or nursing kits. They reside temporarily in the nursery den, where their main duty is to care for the young kits. Some she-cats may choose to become permanent nursery-queens to help care for others' kits, even after their own have grown. Elder: Retired warriors who are no longer able to perform their duties due to age, injury, or sickness. They live a life of respect and rest in the elders' den. Apprentices are responsible for their care, which includes bringing them food and checking them for ticks.
