I'm the protective and observant one. I'm Garnet and I'm a Rhode Island Red hen from the 2024 generation. I do hate being a sentinel hen but it was the only role I could do with my lack of responsibility and egg production. I also lose feathers due to stress factors and it's getting worse due to summer factors. The unbearable heat has been burning on my bare skin. My other flockmates have at least all of their 8,000 feathers while I have around only 5,000. Show offs. At least Sunshine knows what its like to be small and featherless. We both have genetic mutations, meaning our faces still look like a chick's. It's like humans having a baby face. I could have been a fighter though. I have sharp claws and a fierce personality. It would have been fine to be a fighter. I just watch for danger. My half-sister is the fighter when she can't even eat a scrap of apple peels. She cries every time we hurt a living thing. Then, there are times she can get so feisty and then give our head hen, Rosie a good peck in the head when she objects. I honestly hate Rosie being the head hen, then again, I wouldn't do such a good job at it. Rosie always hands out stupid orders of who needs to lay an egg today or who should inspect the food scraps before we consume. Who cares? Not me for sure! It's not like we would get poisoned, because Mother Hen loves us and named us good names. She always feeds us, cleans our water, and remembers to give a roll call. Oh, Rosie does a role call and I swear she mutters something about me all the time. Who should I pass this down too? Maybe Sunshine? I was at my post today and I spotted Green Monster trotting up the no-grass place. Green Monster always smells like chicken food and treats. But also Green Monster is a non-living beast. It also brings us new chicks from something called "the feed store", as Mother Hen tells us. When she came to check our coop today early in the dawn to collect eggs, she mentioned something about 50 Cornish Broilers and two Lavender Orpingtons. I heard the names are Violet and Pearl. Very classic choices. Mother Hen always gives us good names with a meaning, based on size and breed color. I think Sunshine wants to introduce herself. Hope she writes a good entry.
