includes a mom being separated from her kits. Wow," said Willow (W-1ll0w). She stared at her litter. She was a bit confused, but she loved them all the same. She licked their heads as she settled into bed. She knew that she would only get to see them for one, maybe two cycles (months) , but she would care for them and she truly did love them. She had been separated from her sister and other members of sector D to have her kittens. The air felt thin and smelled of strong chemicals. A constant, low hum was the only sound she could hear, drowning out the outside world she never knew. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- It had only been a week since they had been born. The door hissed open, flooding the space with harsh, sterile light. Willow stood up slipping on the cold metal floor. Her hackles up as she put herself between the approaching owners and her kittens. The owners entered quickly. Before she could bite or claw, a looped pole tightened around her muzzle, stoping her from bitting them. Pinned by several handlers, she could only watch, held tight by the weird device, as another tech quickly took the three crying kits. "Subject W-1ll0w, do not resist," a voice came through the enclosure's speaker system, flat and emotionless. She ignored it. The owners entered quickly. They quickly took the three crying kits. "C-unit designation C-0RA, C-L30, and C-0DY secured," a owner said into a recorder, they didn't care that she was there. Tears welled up in her eyes as her tail dropped. The scent of her babies faded as they were carried out of the room. The door shut again with a final, heavy hiss, leaving Willow alone with her broken heart. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some time alone with her sadness, the door opened one last time. There was no gentle handling, just a firm poke from a stick that moved her out of the room. The workers guided her through the cold metal hallways. They did not speak. They just moved her from the whelping room back to where she belonged. The last door slid shut, locking her back in Sector D with her sister and the others. She was home again, but empty, with only a silent, heavy feeling where her litter used to be.
