"It's all a dream." He held me close as he whispered softly in my ear. "When you wake up, you'll forget everything. You'll forget me." "No." Tears streamed down my cheeks. "I won't let that happen Joshua. I will never forget you." "Oh darling." His voice trembled. "It's already started." "How do you know?" He laughed a sad laugh. "My name isn't Joshua." His eyes glistened with fresh tears. "You're already remembering reality." "It can't!" My voice squeaked. "Please... I don't want to wake up." I threw my arms around his neck, burying my face in his shoulder. "My love?" He pushed me back, his hand cradling my chin. I forced myself to lift my head and meet his loving gaze. "Yes?" "What is reality like? Think hard." I squeezed my eyes shut and thought hard. "It-it's an awful place. Full of pain and tears and loss and heartbreak. Where people k!ll and hurt others and lie and cheat..." My voice trailed off as all the memories flooded back. "It's an evil and violent place but..." I looked up again, but this time his face wasn't full of sorrow. It was full of acceptance. "It's your home." He finished. My arms clung to him with all my might, not wanting to lose him. Not after all this. Suddenly, everything became a swirl of colors and blurs. Everything except me and him. We spun in a circle, faster and faster, so fast I could barely keep my footing. I just kept clinging to him and whispering in his ear over and over, "Please don't go. Please. I need you." "Darling?" "Yes?" "It's time to let go now, but I will never forget you. And... I love you. Forever." I stood on my tiptoes and planted a soft kiss on his lips, feeling his arms wrap around my waist. A tear fell from his face and landed on my hair. Before I knew it, everything disappeared to black. His firm grip around my waist vanished, leaving only the echoes of his last words in my ears. "I love you. Forever."
