Iris - she/her (she/they much later in the story) hehe silly music the way im typing this is making her sound like a self-insert but iris isn't really that similar to me at all actually.. i just did a LOT of research on some different things :) actually maybe the sleep deprivation part is similar to me but like not for the same reasonss - personality? shes the literal definition of anxiety but i still love her :3 It's important to note that her anxiety and the way she acts is NOT necessarily due to trauma! She's been like this since she was able to speak, and although it is true that she began speaking later than some of the others her age, the way Iris acts does not come from one singular source! Her home environment is mostly positive :] she doesn't speak to people she doesn't know or when in a newer situation or in public... not because she does it intentionally but because she physically can't. it's like she lost the ability to talk. at home, though? Iris can speak. She doesn't understand it, but her anxiety has gotten so much worse.. shes jumpy, flinches at everything, and always feels like such a crybaby... she can't even get a good nights sleep without waking up in a cold sweat.. so she's constantly on edge and sleep deprived. The reason that Iris likes being around Stella (who uses she/xe) so much is because of how easily she is able to keep Iris feeling calm and safe. Although xe might be a bit... intense at times, Stella knows when to stop and think. She knows when Iris is feeling overwhelmed and is actually a really important person in both Iris and Mystie's lives. Stella is overly positive but isn't really faking it either, and because of these along with multiple other factors, Iris began to develop feelings for her, despite her initial belief that she was straight. As Iris begins to battle her inner feelings and confusion, something else happens: Stella likes her back. ... Alamyst notices. ... They notice the way that they're always smiling at each other, notice the way that they've been looking at the other from across the room when they thought nobody was looking... They notice the way that Iris will always seek to find Stella in scary situations and how Stella always glances at Iris when making difficult decisions. They notice when the two start to become closer and how they seem to talk to others less and less. Alamyst notices the way that Stella seems to care less and less about them. It's always about Iris. What could Iris do that they couldn't? Secretly, deep down, they knew the answer to that question and always have. All those years ago when Stella confessed to Alamyst... They wanted to reciprocate those feelings, wanted to like Stella in the same way... But no matter how much they tried, they couldn't. Something had to have been wrong with them. They were never able to like someone in that way, and that's why Stella moved on and forgot about them. The only reason xe was even here right now was because the three of them needed to work together to try to stop the war between the three types of cats. Between Iris's, Stella's, and Mystie's kind. Work together... That's what they needed to do... But no matter how hard they tried, Alamyst couldn't bring themself to do it. The jealousy eventually got too much to bear and after the encouragement from ____, they decided to do something truly heartless... "The darkness is forever stronger than the light and there is nothing we can do to stop it..."
