An extremely basic guide to EQ. Apologies for everything, I was too lazy to get a good mic and mix, and my sisters decided to start playing the piano right as I started recording. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Transcript: Today, I'll show you what an EQ is, and what it can be used for. EQ is short for Equalizer, and it allows you to raise or lower specific frequencies. It can also be used for some cool filters. Let's check them out. Raising frequencies can sound like this. Choose which frequencies to increase, and accentuate certain ones. Decreasing frequencies can sound like this. Choose the frequencies you want to lower. There are usually 3 big frequency groups that are commonly talked about. These are the lows, the mids, and the highs. Some people will call the lows the "bass" and the highs the "treble." Here's what they sound like. Bass. Mids. Treble. Alright, let's bring them all back. People use an EQ to mess with these frequencies and create filters. Here are two filters that I like to use. This is a low pass filter, also known as a high cut filter. They're the same thing. It sounds like it's playing through a door! Up next is a high pass filter, also known as a low cut filter. Same thing, but now it sounds tinny, like a phone! You can use filters as transitions, they can help make things fade in. (I don't have anything in my script for this part, so... Yeah.) Let's move a low pass filter and fade in this chiptune solo. See how smooth it was? You can use something like this in your own songs when introducing a new segment. Add a single lead, or maybe even completely transition a song to a different section. Ok, now go away square wave. There's a lot of things you can do with EQ, and it's applicable... Everywhere. So make sure you know it well. I'm only here to teach you the basics, as this is like, the basic intro to EQ, but definitely keep learning it and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, I'll see you in the next one. Goodbye. ///////////////////////
