"The Caissons Go Rolling Along" is a song that was officially adapted into "The Army Goes Rolling Along," the official song of the United States Army. The melody was composed by First Lieutenant (later Brigadier General) Edmund L. Gruber in 1908. The song quickly became popular within the Army and was later used as the basis for John Philip Sousa's march, "The U.S. Field Artillery". Later the music became the official Army song in 1956.
