Game Lore – Anomalous Backrooms After an experimental containment breach at a clandestine research facility, space itself has ruptured—creating a network of endless, liminal rooms that seem to obey no earthly logic. This is the Backrooms: a labyrinth that tangles time, memory, and physics. The player—a skilled retrieval agent in a distinctive purple hazmat suit—is deployed to recover a critically important item lost during the breach. Your mission: explore a sequence of 20 uniquely anomalous rooms, each a pocket of unpredictable reality. These rooms distort perception, compress or expand time, and occasionally rearrange themselves—making navigation harrowing and escape even more so. Entities, echoes of failed experiments or perhaps never-human at all, haunt these spaces. They watch, stalk, and manipulate their environments, some predatory and others incomprehensible. Their intentions are often unclear, but contact is always dangerous. The further you venture, the less you can trust what you see—or even your memories of where you've been. Your tools and training are limited. The rules given to you—"If you see an anomaly, turn back immediately"—are your only guidance, but survival sometimes requires breaking them. The retrieval may hold the key to shutting down the anomaly… but delving too deep could mean never returning at all.
