Boreas is the Prince of the Cold North Winds, one of the four branches of winds united under Aeolus, their Almighty god. The Winds rule in different seasons and bring the tornadoes of summer, the monsoons of fall, the frigid blizzards of winter, and the soft spring breezes. Boreas may be the eldest, but he will never get the throne. His power over the wind was fragile. He is what they call a Mirror Beast, and the wind is so sensitive with his emotions. His compass, worn around his neck, keeps his magic in check, but in doing so weakens it. His father instead places the crown on Lucifer, Boreas’ younger brother. At the coronation, Boreas tells himself he is happy. Isn’t he? For his brother, who will no doubt be a great ruler? Somebody clearly isn’t, because that night, returning to his den, he finds Lucifer’s dead body. Blamed with the murder by Aeolus and his Winds, Boreas must flee. There would be no way of escape, no way at all, if Aeolus hadn’t attacked, slashing Boreas’ left eye as well as the compass. With the winds obeying the fierce storm and grief of his mind, even Aeolus is injured in the fight. Boreas turns bitterly beyond the hill and goes on, not knowing what is in store for him and not knowing what, exactly, he has turned into.
Lucifer is Boreas’ younger brother I was unaware but I named him after my friend’s brother.
