[ This project provide a short description about the different areas within the republic’s city for characters to use for threads, alongside serving as a suggestion or question area for new or existing locations ] Location Map (Created by @Chaoticbean312): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1267380422/ The Aerie of Dawn: A towering, skeleton of a formerly grandiose metal skyscraper - now repurposed as a nesting site for members of the High Class. Wrapped in woven branches, and adorned with polished glass and golden banners, the capital serves as a monument to the republic’s power and supremacy. Balconies and landing perches line the building’s sides that enter into rooms repurposed for various uses by its inhabitants, and surveying Talon-Officer patrols can often be seen gliding about the tower as well. The Archivists Scriptorium: A large, repurposed cathedral of stone and stained glass, where members of the Archivists and Pagewings gather, study, and nest. The walls of the interior are adorned with various records in scrawled writing, and colored tapestries and murals detail grandiose moments and notable birds of the republic’s recorded history. Amongst the smell of burnt wax and dried ink on parchment, this place holds a multitude of secrets waiting to be found, although some might be best kept in the dark. The Cloudfront Aviaries: A collection of massive, glass-roofed buildings circled around The Aerie’s tower and Scriptorium. Once housing human-made botanical gardens, they have now been repurposed for various uses such as homes, temples, or hospitals utilized by members of the Middle Class. Although it is located within the grounds of the High Class and their watch, many of the aviaries open their light-refracted doors to members of the Lower Class either out of sympathy, or as a way to make a better living for themselves. Skyfall Forest: A run-down park and lake whose surrounding area has now become a reclaimed ruin of giant trees and overgrown nature. Collapsed towers, cracked roads, and crumbling walls make up the dimly-lit environment, and the buzz of insects and scurry of small creatures can be found the deeper one wanders in. Given its kept cleanliness and rustic environment compared to the rest of the city, a select few members of the upper two classes choose to make their home within this quiet, mysterious forest. It also doubles as a convenient meeting place and hunting ground as well, for all classes alike. The Rustgate Market: A marketplace at the edge of the slums, repurposed and maintained from the remains of an old warehouse. Various traders and creatives within the different classes gather together underneath its metallic roof to exchange goods and wares such as scrap metal, food, repurposed tech, or to provide services of their respective talents or trade. A lot of gossip and information about the classes is often spread through the dimly lit stands of the market as well - darker secrets often told underneath the prying eyes of the higher republic. The Underflock Slums: Sprawling through the crumbled buildings and cracked streets of the main city lies the slums that many of the Lower Class’ members call home. The smog-dimmed sky, broken cars and man-made structures now turned roost, and the decaying street alleys and smell make it seem inhabitable in the eyes of the higher classes, but life finds a way to prosper within all the wire, squalor, and plastic roofs. Small gardens can be found underneath broken rooftops, the chatter of music in softly lit corners, and colored art and decoration from what is assembled from scrap give the place a sense of comfort much of the republic have strayed away from. The Undergate Passage: Tucked away in a quiet, heavily Talon-Officer surveyed spot close to the slums lies the remains of a decaying subway tunnel system. Overtaken by moss and roots, the inside of the concrete place is lined with preserved, technological remains of human society. Strange color-washed banners line the walls, and broken escalators and dangling lighting panels now illuminated by natural light cracking in through the ceiling. Rooms full of metal chairs and former ticket stations surrounded in dirty glass and grime, and the occasional remains of overgrown, metal machines for the those who trek down the metal lined tunnel routes. Given how much the High Class keeps a close eye on the place, much of what lies within remains untouched - a preserved remnant of what once was human society. Some even say that the tunnels might lead out of the city, although none have ever made it far enough without getting caught to see for themselves.
(.cont) Scorched Plains: A dried, ashen remain of what once was a vast plain outside of the republic’s walls. The grass that once stretched the grounds here have now died out from the fires that once washed through the land, alongside the occasional remains of a burned, skeletal tree or cluster of metal vehicles now left to decay. Very little life makes there home out here besides the occasional rodent, although plenty of eerie, skeletal and human-era relics can be found by those who choose to search the grounds for themselves. The Monolith Marsh: Scouring the salt marsh they call home, lies a collection of man-made spires. The place doubles as both a crucial hunting ground for crabs and small fish, and as a fascinating location for those curious to explore. While some of the metal towers lie dead and abandoned, a few do occasionally emit faint light or strange, static-like sounds if you happen across at the right time. The republic claims that the jumble of wires and tech found within are nothing of importance, but that hasn’t stopped speculation amongst the more optimistic of birds from wondering what their true purpose may be. Rustfields: A vast junkyard plain of what was once an abandoned shipping yard, now reduced to an oil, grimy harbor made use by the more “inventive” members of the republic. The rusted cranes, collapsed hangars, skeletal ships, and old cargo holds are now used for their parts in metal and trinket collection, or in repurposing projects for inventions of new tech. Despite its smog and decay, the place is the heart of the Metalshaper and Techbinder culture, and for some, a temporary escape from the eyes of the higher classes.
