FOR NORTH'S ASCENDED FORM: This requires some explanation and lore, so I will introduce how magic works in the universe that Polaris lives in. Yes, this is part of a pre-existing story that I've already written, containing multiple characters & a lot of world-building but it's basically irrevalant in this situation so I'll skip over those details. HOW MAGIC WORKS: In this universe, magic is a form of energy that can be channeled outwards, by manipulating elements such as fire, light, earth, water, shadow etc. Hence, how magical you are depends on how well you can absorb this energy and channel it outwards. Many beings (as there are many different species in that universe, cats being one of them) lack this ability to absorb this energy, and even if they can, they struggle to channel it outwards. Hence it is very rare for a being with no heritage of magic to become magical. Exceptions to this is using rare artefacts that already have energy (or magic) in it, these artefacts are usually known as remnants of god's magic or other powerful beings, and can range from anything to a staff, orb, book, etc. Beings who get their hands on these artefacts can use this energy and become temporarily magical, as energy cannot be created or destroyed so eventually the artefact will be drained of energy. For the beings with the ability to absorb and channel this energy, they often are tied to a single element, and can only manipulate that element. They can only absorb energy from that specific element anyways, such as a being who can manipulate water can only absorb energy from water, such as ocean waves etc. However there can be more powerful beings who can manipulate multiple elements, but stable powerful beings are rare. This is because more powerful beings often become unstable or corrupted, if a being absorbs too much energy and does not channel enough of it outwards, the energy drives them crazy. The temporary outbursts of insanity can lead to well, death. It takes a long time for a being to learn how to regulate the absorption and channeling of energy, so many powerful beings die when they are younger. Though, there is the possibility of Ascension. An Ascended Being can absorb energy from everything, even if it is unrelated to their magic. Since absorbing energy from everything can put an incredible strain on Ascended Beings, they often go dormant and rest for hundreds of years, as they are practically immortal as well. There are very few Ascended Beings in the entire universe, and most of them are dormant. When they do wake up though, it often results in a catastrophe because their magic can ruin entire worlds, if not wreck entire solar systems. It's why the Golden Agency of Angels (not relevant organisation but for context I will bring them up) annd Mizo the High Goddess regulate the 27 worlds in their solar system, making sure that no single being ascends, or begins to ascend.
