Unfortunately, it was only really considered modern in comparison to the ageing Précision based vehicle in which it replaced. Despite the rack and pinion steering with front wheel drive, and new engines (later available with fuel injection), it wasn't enough to stack up to mainstream rivals from manufacturers like Bowden or Alcott. That said, it was far cheaper than the Japanese and American alternatives - being one of the cheapest cars in Canada throughout the entire production, from 1986 to 2004. Only seconded by the Argeș 1.3 until that was discontinued in 88. By late production the car was severely outdated - a new dashboard and an airbag were far too little to convince people it was worth buying. Additions like new mirrors happened in the time it took other manufacturers to introduce new cars, the Taiga became a joke throughout North America and is still ridiculed to this day, even if the people who owned them swore by them.
