This is the first chapter of a book I am writing. Please ask if you would like to use it for a project. The book is called "D-Day." You will see why soon. (This is not written by AI, so actually ask if you want to use it) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHAPTER 1 Greenville, South Carolina, August 4, 1943 He was sitting near the back of the bus when I first met him. The bus passed by the recruitment station to pick up the recruits who were there when I boarded. Most of the seats on the bus were full, so I approached him, noticing he was sitting alone. The Beginning He had brown hair, buzzed so short that you could hardly see the color; he had green eyes; he was on the tanner side but still white; he looked American. He wore a tan button-up shirt with the Marine Corps logo, along with formal pants and shoes. Of course, I was dressed the same, as they told us to wear that. “Hey, can I sit here?” I asked “Yes, you can. What’s your name, Blondie?” He asked “Uhh, Dylan Kiosh… what’s yours?” I replied “Jack, Jack Miller,” Jack stated happily Then he extended his hand. It took me a moment to understand what he was doing, then I reached out and shook it. The bus driver was watching me, waiting for me to sit down, so I sat and placed my bag under our seat. Almost immediately, we started moving. Looking around, I saw people who were over 40, as well as some who seemed to be under 20. When I looked out the window, the recruitment station was already barely visible. “So Dylan, where are you from?” Jack asked “Same place as you, Greenville, South Carolina?” I said confused “Well, I’m from Atlanta, Georgia," he said “Oh, I didn’t know there were people from other states here,” I replied, looking around. “No, there’s not. I moved here before the war started. My mom didn't like our old house,” he said, looking at his feet. We both went quiet for a bit, looking out the window again. I noticed that I could see the city start to appear ahead. I looked at all the tall buildings and was mesmerized by their sheer size. “Why are you looking at the city like that?” Jack asked “Oh, yeah, geez, I've just never been to the city before, it's pretty weird-” I was cut off. “NEVER?!? I've been here, I think, a thousand times! You guys really are country fellas,” he excitedly exclaimed. “You're gonna love it, there's really good food there, they have some of the best steak I've ever had! “ he stated “Well, we aren't staying in the city for long; we are just heading through here. It's a long drive ahead of us,” I said “Oh, all right,” he replied, seeming a little less excited now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ END OF CHAPTER 1 (Song at the end is called 'Betty (get money)' by Yung Gravy)
