Hi! Welcome to Enzymanager! This is a game about digestion and enzymes. Introduction: When we eat something, it has to be absorbed by the small intestine into our body so that it reaches our cells. However, the molecules are still too large after being chewed, so our body needs to 'digest' them, which means it needs to break them down into simpler, soluble, smaller molecules that can be absorbed in the body. In order to manage this, our digestive system contains 'enzymes' which break down those molecules. The molecules which the enzymes break down are called 'substrates'. Each enzyme has a specific molecule that it can break down. Most of the digestion takes part in the 'duodenum', which is the start of the small intestine (under the stomach). The enzymes and substrates that you'll encounter in this game: --Proteins are broken down by the enzyme Protease into Amino Acids. --Carbohydrates are broken down by the enzyme Carbohydrase into Glucose Molecules. --Non-emulsified Lipids need to be 'emulsified' (split into smaller molecules) by Bile (which is not an enzyme) before being broken down by the enzyme 'Lipase' into Fatty Acids and Glycerol. Instructions: -use the top-left arrow to access the menu. -use the 'Guide' (from the menu or start screen) to see what enzyme is needed for each substrate and what they turn into. (Note: If you open the Guide while playing, the game will not pause, so I advise that you look through it before starting.) -you have to wait for each molecule to reach the duodenum in order for it to be digested by your enzyme. -use the buttons from the menu to send the enzyme, you can only send one at a time. -if a piece of food leaves the duodenum without being digested, you lose, so you have to be fast. -your score increases with each digested molecule. Note: For Non-emulsified Lipids, you have to send Bile, and then exactly after they are emulsified, you have to send Lipase. Credits: Code, most art and concept by me.
