--- Click or space to advance. Originally shared on Dec. 20, 2025 --- H.R. 845 is a bill in the U.S. Congress officially titled the Pet and Livestock Protection Act of 2025. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives and is now in the Senate for consideration. The enactment of this bill removes gray wolves from the federal protection granted by the Endangered Species Act (ESA). It is a decision that was originally instated in 2020 but vacated in 2022. It would also bar judicial review, meaning that once it is established, no revision would be allowed. Gray wolves are still struggling from the mass murder of its population before 1974, when it was listed as endangered. Their former habitats are still scarce and absent due to human resettlement, and their recovery is inconsistent and in progress in some regions. This technically allows the liberal hunting quota of the wolves, and sanctions their killing for the purpose of "livestock protection", despite the scientific disproving of the ridiculous claim. Wolves have yet to fully traverse their historic territory, and until then, they should remain under protection. The bill passed through the House on December 18th, but it still needs to pass through the Senate. Contact your senators to vote against the bill, send messages publicly opposing it, sign petitions, and raise public awareness in whatever way possible. Public influence can change this potentially drastic outcome. --- H.
