hellooo!! here is your secret santa gift! decided to do some musical/movie recommendations since you said you liked musicals :D 1. Hadestown “ Hadestown tells a version of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice, a starving young girl, goes to work in a hellish industrial version of the Greek underworld to escape poverty and the cold, and her poor singer-songwriter lover Orpheus comes to rescue her. “ Hadestown is one of my favorite musicals of all time. I’m not sure if you like Greek mythology or not, but even if you don’t it’s definitely worth trying! 2. The Sound of Music “ A young novice is sent by her convent in 1930s Austria to become a governess to the seven children of a widowed naval officer. “ I do have to admit that it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen The Sound of Music, but it is quite popular and pretty good! 3. The Music Man “ Traveling con artist Harold Hill targets the naïve residents of a small town in 1910s Iowa by posing as a boys' band leader to raise money before he can skip town. “ I’ve actually seen the film version of this and last year my school drama club had this as their musical :) 4. Little Shop of Horrors “ A nerdy florist finds his chance for success and romance with the help of a giant man-eating plant who demands to be fed. “ I haven’t seen this myself (I’ve only actually heard maybe one song from it :,) ) but I’ve heard that it’s pretty good and funny. 5. Next to Normal “ A suburban family and mother learn to deal with mental health and loss. “ Next to Hadestown this is my second favorite ♥️ There is a proshot (of the West End cast—I like that version better in my opinion) of it available as well :) **If you’re looking into this one, please check some of the warnings for it first—it does deal with some heavier topics 6. EPIC: The Musical “ This musical project, released between 2022 and 2024, is a sung-through adaptation of the Ancient Greek epic poem Odyssey by Homer…It recounts the story of Odysseus as he tries to return from Troy to his island kingdom of Ithaca after the conclusion of the decade-long Trojan War. Along the years-long journey, he encounters multiple gods and monsters who either help or hinder him in his quest to return home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus. “ I’ve listened to EPIC many times and it’s definitely worth checking out if it sounds interesting. The music style is a little different than older musicals (it’s a bit more of a blend of rock and pop and a couple other genres) but I like how it sounds a bit more modern while still telling the story. (Also—bit of a disclaimer, it isn’t exactly the most accurate to the actual Odyssey, but it is still a good story) 7. Phantom of the Opera “ The Phantom of the Opera follows a gifted and beautiful young singer at the Paris Opéra, Christine Daaé, who is both haunted and mentored by a secretive music teacher she calls her ‘Angel of Music.’ “ Phantom is of course one of the much more popular musicals, but it is still very good :)
